The Northstar keel was constructed of built as a carbon beam, and faired with a foam and carbon foil.

The righting moment provided by the keel was not enough to keep the boat horizontal, leading to the creation of a new keel and eventual modification of the hull .

Good Design FeaturesEdit

  • roughly correct amount of lateral resistance
  • low drag from foil
  • low drag from bulb

Poor Design FeaturesEdit

  • not enough righting moment
  • poor join between beam and foil, admits and holds water
